I was one of those exasperated staff in the trees on that day 5 in 2000. Tired, sweaty and ready to leave but when David Pritchard asks you to do something, you do it [am I right Pritchard Kids, or am I right?]. I am so glad I stayed. What a joy it was to be a part of Tavita's Rite of Passage.
Now as a father of one son, it is my plan to walk Joel through his own Rite of Passage in just 3 short years. I am so thankful for David & Kelli and their lives of faithfulness and love for theirs and everyone else's children.

David and Kelli,
Our son Connor is 13 and we are having a Rite of Passage event this coming Monday, June 20th. We have used the book "Raising a Modern Day Knight" by Robert Lewis and your blog entry for ideas. During the day he will be meeting eight people at different locations around Bellingham with a celebration BBQ for dinner We also have used the book for other events in our sons (Connor 13, Mitchell 11) lives. An annual father and son hiking/camping trip with their Bellingham Christian School classmates for example. Even though our daughter Haley is already 14, Debbie plans to have a Rite of Passage for her later this Summer. Please pray for them as we celebrate this milestone in their lives.
We love and miss you guys.

Wonderful post, David. This same big picture advice could apply to almost any student in almost any similar situation. I'm filing this one for future use ;)

I always wondering why is it that our teenagers produce babies without getting marriage. in their situations it's a bad experienced not even us we enjoy our sons and daughters.

I am so thankful that I clicked over here today! When I first read Going Public, I found your blog but you weren't blogging regularly then. I'm really enjoying reading through your archives in the past year as I gear up to retrain my boys (ages 5 and 7) yet again...as you know there are ups and downs of how much discipline you have to do and then re-do/maintain as we parents get lax and then have to tighten the reins again!

I don't have any specific questions but want to thank you for taking your time to write out such great parenting advice. We currently have one foster daughter (age 1) and are prayerfully considering adopting two of our previous foster sons (age 1 and 3) as well as their sister (age 5) and the thought of parenting 5 or 6 instead of just my two is daunting. I thought of you guys and that's what brought me here. Thank you for your encouragement to like-minded parents. You really are a blessing.

Amen for the good news! Congrats.

I am getting ready to re-read your book. For the 4th time. We are presently swining towards the private school side right now, but your book has been such a blessing. I do think it demands a sequal. Simply because their are only 2 books that I could find on the topic of Christians and public school that we're positive. ( the other by Cheri Fuller)

Also here is a review I posted on my blog in regards to your book. Love the advice you give in it, it has influenced my parenting as a father.
